Parading for Pride
Pride 2022 at Nordstrom roots in connection, culture and community by amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices and celebrating community.
Thousands of people celebrated Pride in New York City and Seattle this weekend, and our Nordstrom teams were among the many marching in the parade and celebrating. After a two-year hiatus, it was amazing to honor, share and celebrate love coast to coast for the LGBTQIA+ community. You can see highlights from our Pride parade celebrations here. This year, we sponsored more than 35 Pride celebrations and parades across the U.S. and Canada.
“I’m proud to be part of the LGBTQ community and thankful to work for a company that embraces diversity and encourages us to be our authentic selves,” said Chris Wanlass, vice president and general manager. “My favorite part of the NYC parade is marching down Christopher Street, in front of the Stonewall Inn. Thinking about the seismic changes that started from riots here over 40 years ago, you can’t help but appreciate the progress that has been made while recognizing the fragility of those rights.”
This year’s Pride celebrations matter even more to our employees and customers. Earlier this year, we’ve witnessed efforts to undermine protections, support for and the identity of LGBTQIA+ youth that go against our values. That’s why we felt it was important to sign onto a statement from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), joining other businesses in affirming support for the LGBTQIA+ community, and renew our annual contribution to the organization.
We’ve also donated to organizations like Lambda Legal and Equality Florida, aiding youth and families on the ground in places where they need our support the most. This year also marked the 53rd anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising—the onset of the modern Gay Rights movement. In honor of Pride, we are continuing to donate to organizations that support the LGBTQIA+ community year-round.
