Spring is now in session. For a fresh perspective on the season, Jian DeLeon, Men’s Fashion and Editorial Director, sheds some light on this season’s top trends for men. Find our picks in the image galleries below.
The Work-cation Wardrobe
Now that casual Friday is casual every day, Spring 2022 is about adding some liveliness into your closet. Rich landscape print sweaters add an intricate texture to any outfit, with a wearable wish for where you want to spend your next vacation. Abstract print shirts are a progressive pinch hitter for the usual floral woven button-downs, while the more daring dressers might want to step up their game with in-your-face digital floral prints.
Dad Trad
So-called “dad style” used to mean frumpy jeans and beat-up gray sneakers, but over the past few seasons, even men without kids have adopted a sensible way of dressing that toes the line between at-ease comfort and put-together sportswear. Light-washed jeans in a classic straight fit anchor most looks here, with elements of American prep like madras plaids and block striped rugbys stepping in for graphic tees. Even a soft knit polo elevates any look, especially when paired with a broken-in curved-brim ballcap.
Hikebeast
Outdoor gear has always had a special kind of status in men’s clothing, and that’s a relationship that continues to evolve for Spring 2022. In a world where teenagers shower in their waterproof jackets on social media, it isn’t far-fetched to think young men are equally going to gravitate towards other anchors of trail-inspired style. Technical shirt jackets and pile fleece layers look good on anyone regardless of age, but mixing in some seasonal newness in the form of brighter base layers or outerwear really shows the world you know what you’re doing.
Tee Time
Golf-inspired clothes veer off the course to inform a sportier casual wardrobe. Brighter windbreakers, retro-inspired knit polos, and even patterned trousers channel the signature style of some of the best-dressed people in the golf game and the fashion game. Colorful cardigans in waffle knits add some texture without being too stuffy, and believe it or not, sweater vests now have serious street cred, especially in subversive animal or geometric prints. Bueller? Bueller?
